A five year old boy within the past year was diagnosed with neuroblastoma which effects children under age five. After developing TMA from chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants, he had to receive red blood cell and platelet transfusions. Without this blood and platelet transfusions he would have died. This is why it is very crucial to donate blood.

Key Takeaways:

  • It’s important for people to donate, and you don’t really know until you’re in that situation sometimes how important it really is to give blood
  • The blood that is coming in is disappearing so quickly, and we don’t have enough blood for surgeries, for accidents, to treat the people who need it
  • To help ease the blood shortage, Local 4 has teamed up with Gardner-White and the Red Cross for blood drives
