Researchers found that using vitamin C correctly in high doses kills cancer cells

There are many that take high doses of vitamin C at the sign of a cold, in hopes of fighting it off or at least shortening the symptoms. It has also been suggested that such high doses could help fight off cancer, but the research has been mixed. A new study is stating that the mixed results are due to the route of administration. While an oral dose can leave much of it unused by the body, intravenous administration has been shown to create levels 100 to 500 times that of an oral dose.

Key Takeaways:

  • Researchers may have discovered the reason that research into the effectiveness of high-dose vitamin C as a cancer treatment has been so mixed.
  • In contrast, intravenous administration of vitamin C produces blood levels 100 to 500 times higher than oral administration.
  • In this paper we demonstrate that cancer cells are much less efficient in removing hydrogen peroxide than normal cells.
