Every year, over nine-thousand people that have suffered a stroke miss out on medical care that can stop disability following a stroke. A thrombectomy (clot retrieval) has been proven to restore blood flow, preventing any further damage to the brain. However, this treatment is only performed 600 times a year by doctors due to heavy shortage of experienced staff, and stroke services having unfilled stroke consultant posts.
